Music Ed

What American/British/otherwise sung in English songs do you think would be good/accessible for beginners in Korean? I think my listening classes are really boring (and really easy!) and adding music would be fun for me AND for the kids.

I'm trying to think of stuff without complicated/obscure vocabulary and well-enunciated lyrics (so no Kurt Cobain or John Fogerty) but my mind's drawing a blank.

  1. If you have younger kids, try Peter, Paul and Mommy, or the Beatles for older kids. Easy to understand, and timeless.

  3. Seconding Beatles, though I'd stick with early Beatles.

"She loves you, yeah yeah yeah
She loves you, yeah yeah yeah
She loves you, yeah yeah yeah"

    versus

"Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
    Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down."

  4. thinking about the kiddy music i used to play in the van .... if you have younger kids there's the ever-popular B-I--N-G-O (or the alphabet song?) i'm still thinking about older kids

  6. Mom: they're not younger, they're like 13 and 14 years old.

  7. From the Beatles: All You Need Is Love (teach passive voice!), Yellow Submarine, Yesterday

Barenaked Ladies: If I Had A Million Dollars - If/Then statements = fucking brilliant.

Basically, slower things worked nicely for me. Any folk songs you have, that'd probably be good - Red River Valley, for example? That's all I can think of for now, I'll think a bit more.
